Consider the journey Nicodemus went on over three years:
growing up in the Jewish faith
learning, reading, studying to become a Pharisee
leading his household and neighbourhood in their culture and practices
hearing about the new teacher and healer in town
seeking Jesus out under the cover of night
allowing profound questions to surface about faith, spirit, truth, God
walking the line between two loyalties
coming out, eventually, as a person of integrity
… and what was next for Nicodemus? Is he among the gathering of believers in Acts1.15?
Where are the divided loyalties in my life?
Do I let my culture and traditions overwhelm the new inklings of truth?
Reflecting on your own journey of the last few days:
Using that prayerful practice many centuries old that can lead us to being mindful and present to the significance of our days and weeks .…the examen:
- I invite the Holy One to bring to my heart and mind the times this past week when I had the greatest sense of belonging – to myself, to others, to God.
- I ask God to bring to light the moments when I had the least sense of belonging.
- I let my feelings come to the surface. In the silence, I let God’s love fill me just the way I am.
- I give thanks for whatever I have experienced. I ask forgiveness where I need to.
- I rest and reflect.
