Consider the journey Thomas set off on …
called by Jesus,
trying to follow and be faithful to death (John 11)
confused as to what Jesus is saying
doubting and then believing
giving up and going fishing (John 21)
praying and discerning what to do next (Acts 1)
and tradition tells us that Thomas took the good news about Jesus as far as India,
establishing there a community which MAR-THOMA Christians see as their heritage.
So, if Thomas’s life were to have parallels with mine, where would it resonate? Which verb could I apply to my life right now? Trying to follow… Giving up… Confused…
Reflecting on your own journey of the last few days:
There is a prayerful practice many centuries old that can lead us to being mindful and present to the significance of our days and weeks .…the Examen:
- I invite the Holy One to bring to my heart and mind the times this past week for which I am most grateful.
- I ask God to bring to light the moments for which I am least grateful.
- I let my feelings come to the surface. In the silence, I breathe deeply, and let God’s love fill me just the way I am.
- I am thankful for whatever I have experienced.
- I ask forgiveness where I need to.
- I rest and reflect.
